I'm excited to begin learning Japanese! Additionally, learning the kanji could help my Chinese, so that's a bonus. I think memorizing kanji and grammar will be a challenge, and am going to have to get pretty fast at reading the kana.

That's awesome that you can utilize what you learn in Japanese to better yourself in your native language. I'm so jealous that a lot of kanji will already be familiar to you. わたしは かんじを わかりません！ I went to Taiwan with my grandma, who's a におんじ, and she was able to read all the signs since she knew Kanji. I wonder what Chinese characters the Japanese may utilize more than the Chinese do. Also I bet your handwriting is beautiful. Sooo Jealous! :)
